Minnesota Governor Caves

On Saturday, Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) announced that churches and other houses of worship would finally be allowed to host services with more than ten people. His announcement came after Catholic and Lutheran churches warned the governor that they would reopen their churches to more than ten people before May 31, Pentecost Sunday, with or without his permission.

Go here to read the rest.  Amazing what can be accomplished when the Catholic Church acts like the Catholic Church.  Applause also to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and all denominations fighting to make freedom of religion once again a reality.

During the press conference Governor Walz made sure to talk at length about how important religious worship is…. for muslims.

It didn’t hurt that Trump weighed in on Churches being essential.

If I was the kind of guy who wanted to troll Democrats, I’d be gloating over Walz caving to Trump.

Well, truth be told, I am that kind of guy, but I don’t know where DFLers go to hang out on the internet. And I don’t care enough to find out.

The 10 person restriction was silly. The nave of an ordinary small town nave can hold 40 even if everyone is six feet apart in all directions and churches can hold outdoor services as needed. What you need to stop is the singing and the handshaking. Masks would also be helpful.

In regard to some of our politicians, they open their mouths and your confidence in them just drains away.

Good. We all need to confront and, if necessary, overcome illegitimate authority by mass disobedience. Never again should there be a lockdown and especially a lockdown for such a specious reason, i.e., a serious flu during flu season. Never, ever give our politicians more power than they legitimately possess.

Ok fine.
When and by what metrics and by whose “permission” do we return to a public Mass as we knew it? This is not the victory it is advertised to be. The bishops wanted one third. The governor said one quarter. Bishops caved.
They await the govenor’s next crumbs of permission. Good boys. Nice boys.

When this started, I wouldn’t have figured Abp. Hebda as a profile in courage. But he has been at least on this issue.

Question Everything.

Ask yourself. Are Americans slaves?

The governors of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York should be hanged.

“Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Patrick Henry

Remember in November.

The only risk I see for total return to Church normal (not some asinine ‘new normal’ dictated by [expletive deleted] murderous imbeciles like Cuomo and DeBlasio) is that our wonderful priests may be at risk.

I said it before: the people will end this lockdown but for the sake of peace allow their leaders to claim a little credit.
“Just give it a little more time.”
(And Ranger01: every savvy negotiator asks for more than he knows he can get.)

The governors who forced nursing homes to take in known Covid-positive patients ought to be the targets of a criminal investigation at the very least. Sadly, I’d be surprised if that happens.

It is true that the bishops have agreed to even tighter restrictions than their proposed restrictions, which were already too restrictive to begin with.

The lesson here is not that the bishops are models of courage. The lesson here is that Governor Walz is such a weenie that even the bishops can stare him down.

The larger lesson is that there are no civil authorities who will continue to enforce these restrictions in the face of mass civil disobedience.

The 9th Circus upheld (2 to 1) the California Dictator’s orders keeping Churches closed.

The same article questions Trump over declaring Churches an essential service. “It is unclear what legal authority the president has to overrule a governor and the White House could not cite a specific provision that would give Trump that power.”

I dunno, does dispensing with the parts of the Constitution a governor finds inconvenient threaten a state’s guarantee to a Republican form of government?
